A new year and a new awards show season. Kicking off into high gear was the 39th Annual People's Choice Awards. I was particularly impressed by this event, lots of new names standing out from the pack and veteran stars really shining...
Two favourites! First off my girl Ms Taylor Swift. Hot off the back of an apparent split with a certain Directioner (the whole thing still screams PR stunt), Taylor hit the red carpet in fighting form wearing a white Ralph Lauren gown, with a swept up hairdo and smouldering eyes. Despite her messy personal life, I think she looked amazing here!
Another favourite at the event was actress Ellen Pompeo. Very rarely seen out at this type of thing, she look amazing-ly ethereal on the red carpet and, like Taylor, wore a gorgeous little-white-dress - this time by Lanvin. The addition of the black belt is perfect to cinch in the gown too.
Bold and bright were the order of the day for these two ladies. Lea Michele repped Glee cast alongside her co-star Chris Colfer at the event in a bubblegum pink Ellie Saab mini with matching heels. She looked super cute with her plaited up do, and it's just been lovely seeing her have fun with her style recently - trying to get away from the all-black-wardrobe of Ms Rachel Berry, Lea?
Chloe Moretz positively glowed in a neon yellow Simone Rochas floral dress. This looks great on Chloe, there are very few who can pull off something as bright as this. My only gripe is her shoe choice, a little uninspiring from the ankle down Chloe!
Two actresses from the biggest franchises in the world were also in attendance. Emma Watson skipped the nicities and paps, heading straight for her seat, but we got a good glimpse of her in the press room after winning her awards. Emma Watson's geometric print, this time a Peter Pilotto. and edgy heels has become somewhat of a signature look when she's attended these less formal awards shows. Nevertheless she look great! Jennifer Lawrence's look was my favourite out of the two actresses though, in a subtle shimmering Valentino Couture dress. This may be a bit of a hit or miss look for people, but I personally really like the subtle-y of the hangs here.
Two actresses from The Big Bang Theory and two very different looks. PCA host, Kaley Cuoco wore a pretty pink Christian Siriano dress. It's very prissy and very princess-y and I'm left thinking this may be more appropriate on one of our young Hollywood stars than Kaley. On the other end of the scale was Melissa Rauch who stood out in a canary yellow Junko Yoshioka gown. It was wonderfully refreshing to see this burst of colour from an actress slowly creeping into people's fashion conscious.
Not everyone looked as amazing at this event. Jennifer Aniston picked up her 'Best Comedic Actress' wearing a leather Christian Dior mini on stage. I do admire Jennifer for giving an edgier look a go, but it just didn't work here. If you're going for a dress like this, you've got to commit to it and the whole look feels tired and boring. Katy Perry shocked everyone, both forgoing the red carpet and working a very demure look. Again, like Jennifer I admire her for trying something different and maybe this is a new more mature Ms Perry we're seeing in 2013. But her Valentino dress was, well...a little bland. It's great she's toning down the crazy, but what's wrong with a little fun Katy?
Unlike Katy and Jennifer, I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw Julianne Hough and Heidi Klum's looks here. Julianne's glittering Tony Ward tea dress looked fabulous from her and I love the subtle matching of her shoes. Just proof that you don't have to bare all to get my attention Hough! Heidi's red carpet style is a bit of a roller-coaster ride, but she definitely on a high here. Her sleek Julian Macdonald gown was pretty much flawless and gave peeks at her mod-bod. Bravo Heidi!
It's always nice to see some great looks on unfamiliar faces during January awards season. Taylor Spreitler almost gave her name-sake Ms Swift a run for her money in her metallic silver gown, accessorized with a fresh face of make up and fairytale braids. Ashley Rickards wore a lovely embellished Aidan Mattox gown to the event. With her turn in MTV's Awkward we'll hopefully see more of this girl in 2013.
Candy colours are always a favourite, especially with spring arriving soon - hopefully anyway. Nikki Deloach went for a Dilek Halif gown with a bouffant top-knott, and Pitch Perfect actress Brittany Snow wore a Maria Lucia Hohan midi dress. Both very simple yet very glam looks.
And finally, two dramatic looks from Rachael Leigh Cook and Naomi Watts. I feel like I haven't seen Rachael in anything since her 'She's All That' days, but she really went for the it in an airy, blue Oliver Tolentino gown, with sparkling silver heels. Very modern-day Cinderella.
Naomi looked stunning in rather daring Alexander McQueen gown, the whole thing could've looked very tacky but I love it!
What do you guys thinks? Favourite best and worst looks from the PCA's? What do you think of the kick-starter to the awards season?
