The 'Now THAT'S How You Make An Entrance' Award | Lupita Nyong’o
An event like the Golden Globes attracts some of the biggest stars on the planet, but all eyes were on Lupita Nyong'o. The relative newcomer blew everyone away on the red carpet in a bold red Ralph Lauren gown, with the addition of a cape (a la Gwyneth Paltrow at the 2012 Oscars) and discrete jewels. This is by far my favourite look of the night. It was a risk that definitely paid off and I'm looking forward to see much more from her this season.
The Beauty Is In The Detail Award | Zooey Deschanel
I can always count on Zooey for a little bit of quirk. She really upped her game for the event in an Oscar De La Renta ensemble. At first glance it looks like a gown, but look a little closer and you can spot that she's wearing separates, an embroidered crop top and tulle ballet skirt. And that's not all! There's the subtle studded pumps, simple rose gold jewels and also the side swept bun with floral hair accessories. Not to mention her amazing daisy nail art! On paper it sounds like there's a lot going on, but the unified colour keeps her outfit from looking like a mash up of everything and the red lip provides a welcome hit of colour.
Best Use Of Colour Award | Caitlin Fitzgerald & Reese Witherspoon
Two ladies in blue who wore some of the brightest looks on the red carpet. Caitlin Fitzgerald went for a retro look in a light blue Emilia Wickstead gown, with 50's inspired hair and make up. Her unexpected choice of coral accessories was also just fantastic. Reese went for one of her favourite designers, Calvin Klein, for this simple and sleek ensemble. The teal colour look amazing on her and her minimal styling really let the dress pop on the screen.
The Fashion Forward Award | Emma Watson
Whilst most ladies opted to stay within the award show gown boundaries there was one lady who dared to be different. Emma Watson broke apart from the fashion pack in Christian Dior Couture. From the front it looks like your standard minimalist dress, but the split reveals something a little unexpected...trousers! Yes! The Dior gown conceals a pair of skinny trousers, only revealed by the backless parting at the back. Accompanied by Roger Vivier pumps and slicked back hair, Emma certainly turned heads for all the right reasons. She risked it and I'm on my knees thanking her for it!
more under the cut!....
Best Colour Blocking Award | Taylor Swift & Amy Adams
Though colour was prevalent all over the red carpet event, Taylor Swift and Amy Adams' looks stood out as two of the best.
Taylor went for a bit of a different take on her usual retro styling in a strapless Carolina Herrera gown. As I predicted she looked amazing, but what shocked me most about this is that it was almost devoid of her now trademark glitter and jewels, even her signature red lips were slightly more subdued. Nevertheless I thought it was a refreshingly sophisticated look. Hopefully this is the start of an exciting season for her!
Amy also went for red hues with her colour blocked Valentino gown. Despite the plunging neckline I thought it was a very classy look, almost reminiscent of her American Hustle character sans the hair! Pretty little jewels and a braided updo finished off the look.
The Dainty Doll Award | Michelle Dockery
Looking as regal as her Downtown Alley counterpart Michelle Dockery shimmered down the red carpet in an embellished Oscar De La Renta gown. The gown itself is stunning and requires little extra to make a statement, so I'm grateful for her simple styling, minimal jewelry and pretty satin pumps. J'adore Michelle!
The 'We're Fabulous And We Know It' Award | Tina Fey & Amy Poehler
Hosts for the evening Tina and Amy walked the red carpet separately before posing together for the cameras. Tina stepped out in a gorgeous printed Carolina Herrera gown and Amy went for a sleeker black Stella McCartney dress. As fab as Beth and Kat were at the PCAs the other night, you can't beat these comedic heroines.
The Best Golden Globe-inspired Award | Naomi Watts
Part of my own personal drinking game for the Golden Globes is to look out for someone who shimmers down the red carpet in a golden ensemble for the night. Naomi Watts was my personal favourite from this year's ceremony in a glittering Tom Ford gown. I like the small cut outs that give a hint of skin, plus her complimenting golden jewelry too!
The Va Va Volumous Award | Sofia Vergara
Sofia is known for her added sass and she certainly gave out a lot on the red carpet in this dramatic Zac Posen - she even joked she was smuggling people underneath the skirt! Setting off the look with a turquoise blue statement necklace, I thought this was a much softer look than we're used to on Sofia. Am on the fence whether the dress and jewelry matched up but I like that she's giving us something a little different this time.
The 'Who Cares If It's Dior Again, It's Couture!' Award | Jennifer Lawrence
My girl Jen is becoming somewhat of an award show staple since she rocked up at the Oscars in Calvin Klein a few years ago. She became the girl that divided the most opinions on her Christian Dior Couture gown. As the face of the brand it's no longer a surprise that she once again chose the designer for the event - she even joked about it on the red carpet - but again I think she carried off the look with class. It's actually her styling that really got my attention, as she set off the look with dark jewels and oxblood red lips to give the gown a little edge. Perhaps not her most memorable look of all time but certainly not one of the worst.
Best Mamas-To-Be Award | Olivia Wilde, Kerry Washington & Drew Barrymore
Three very different looks from three stunning mothers to be. Olivia Wilde shimmered down the red carpet in an embellished emerald green Gucci Premiere backless gown, Kerry Washington went for a lighter Balenciaga gown with the floating bodice highlighting her new baby bump, and Drew Barrymore was a welcome explosion of colour and embellishment in a bright Monique Lhuillier gown (which was one of my favourites from the Spring collection!).
The Rising Star Fashionista Award | Allison Williams
I sort of criticised Allison for pulling an Emma Watson at the PCAs, but she's proving her versatility with this amazing Alexander McQueen number. Accented with silver, black and white jewelry and make-up she's becoming one of the ladies to look out for at these events.
The 'Bow Down B*tches* Award | Emma Thompson & Cate Blanchett
There are two things I've come to expect from awards season, one veteran actress will storm the event generally make me fall in love with her all over again for being a badass and two, Cate Blanchett will walk the red carpet like she's Queen of Hollywood.
At previous awards shows my BAMF actress has always been Helena Bonham Carter but this year Emma Thompson in her Laura Ashley gown faking tipsy-ness, heels and martini in hand as she presented the Best Screenplay award. And of course, Cate Blanchett looked positively decadent on an Armani Prive gown.
As the title of this one says, bow down b*tches.
So what about you guys? Who were your favourites from the event?
